Question 2

Subject: Why is my site coming from California?!

I’m in London, but looking at your IPs it shows that you are serving my website from California. Can that be right? Why is that? I thought you were supposed to serve my website from some places close to me?

Step 1: That's a totally valid question. So the way Cloudflare's able to provide top-notch security and make it harder for attackers to find their way into your website is by Cloudflare using shared IP addresses for all traffic that passes through it's network. What that means is that all IP addresses (ex: 192.168.1.1) go into a Cloudflare server and they come out with a uniform IP address within Cloudflare's range of IP addresses. What seems to be happening, is the Cloudflares server which was used to proxy your request was in the region of California. This is a unique case, as Cloudflare tres to have your request done by a server in or at least, much closer to your region. However, if you still prefer to have an IP address localized in your region without any possibility of it going through servers in other regions, we can make that happen.

[I want to explain why it is happening and why it is not a major issue to worry about.

Step 2: I noticed you are on the Pro Plan and not the Enterprise plan. To be able to change the IP address to your specific region, you would have to upgrade to the Enterprise plan. Then we can either use "Bring Your Own IP" or use Static IP addresses, whichever you prefer.

[I want to make sure I'm explaining what to do thoroughly so he can properly configure it in the future or upgrade in the future if he would like to have it permaenly resolved.]

Step 3: As long as your site is loading quickly and everything else is functioning normally, this is typically not an issue. Since you know what's going on and you've let me know you don't want to change anything, I'll close this support ticket. Thanks for being a valuable customer with Cloudflare!

[They are happy with the explanation and want to keep things as they are..]
